A £6 million tower block designed by mblc architects has been submitted to Manchester City Council for detailed planning consent. It will contain 144 'crash pads' - studio flats for people fed up with booking hotel rooms or unwilling to pay inflated prices for larger apartments, said mblc director George Mills. Bathroom and kitchen pods will be prefabricated and slotted into the structure. The oneyear building contract is scheduled to start in February 2002.
