Rick Mather Architects has beaten Arup Associates, BDP, Fielden Clegg Bradley and Hawkins/ Brown to a major design project for the new University of Lincoln, which opens in October. Phase one includes developing a school of architecture and centres for media and communications, science and arts. The practice will also design a 750-seat theatre and two cinemas on the brownfield site. Construction is scheduled to start in 2002. The new University of Lincoln is an incorporation of the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside and neighbouring further education colleges.
