Rick Mather has dropped a heavy hint that he favours keeping the South Bank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall and Hayward Gallery as he finalises his urban design strategy for a Christmas presentation. Mather, who submits his work to the South Bank board shortly, told the aj he favoured keeping the most used areas, and those two buildings are visited more often than others in the complex. The strategy looks at the five options for the site outlined earlier this year and is being tested for costs, access and volumetric aspects. A public consultation is due for launch in February. Mather also spoke of using 100,000m2 under Jubilee Gardens for a multiplex, museum or parking.
