Two developers aim to appoint a masterplanner for a 32ha mixeduse business park on the edge of Manchester city centre. About £200 million of private investment is expected for 130,000m 2of commercial space, 12,000m 2of living/ working space, and 12,600m 2ofhotel and conference areas. Akeler and ASK were appointed last week for the 10-year first phase of North Manchester Business Park.
SOM revealed at MIPIM last week that it is designing this mixed-use building for a new business quarter just outside Amsterdam to go alongside other tall office buildings by Rem Koolhaas, I M Pei, Michael Graves and Toyo Ito. Work on the seven-storey, 20,000m 2block is due to start next summer and last two years. The glass and steel block will have offices, a roof garden, 12 flats and an inner courtyard with wood decking. It will cost £15 million to build and will centre on a full-height atrium, supermarket and shops and mezzanine-level health club.
