Marks Barfield scoops Cambridge expansion primary school job

  • Comment

Marks Barfield has won a competition to design a new primary school for Cambridge’s North West expansion

The London Eye architect saw off competition from star rivals including David Morley and dRMM to land the prestigious job.

The high-profile job is the latest appointment on the £1 billion University of Cambridge-backed large-scale expansion scheme.

Architects already working on the 150-hectare mixed-use project include David Chipperfield, Mecanoo, Wilkinson Eyre, MUMA and AOC.

Outline planning for the Aecom-designed 3,000-home masterplan was won in February.

Marks Barfield’s 400-pupil school is expected to complete by September 2015.

Construction of the first phase featuring 1,300 homes, a café, doctor’s surgery and police office started last month.
