Manchester 'urban village'

Elder & Cannon Architects has won planning consent from Manchester City Council for the first phase of a £70 million 'urban village'. The River Quarter, in the Knott Mill area, will contain 201 flats and 1,600m 2of commercial space. Work is due to start on site later this year, for completion by 2003. The project, on 1.3ha of land, will house development totalling nearly 50,000m 2.
