Sinn Fein has called for parts of the Maze prison in Belfast to be transformed into a museum after the final 15 prisoners leave the infamous Northern Ireland facility by the end of the year.

The Irish republican party has approached the Northern Ireland prison service to request that one of the wings and the prison hospital are retained. Ten IRA prisoners died in the hospital during the 1981 hunger strikes.

During recent weeks terrorist prisoners have been released from the Maze as part of the Good Friday Agreement.
