MacCormac criticised for 'fashionable clichÚ'

What a shame the 'placeless' landscape design around MacCormac Jamieson Prichard's elegant design for Coventry's new Visitor Interpretation Centre (AJ 2/9.8.01) fails to live up to the place-making of the building. The overcomplicated materials palette is referred to by Hugh Broughton in his article. Another concern is that the crude lines of the pleached limes will conflict with and then, as they grow, mask the elegant lines of the building. A sad use of fashionable clichÚ over sound design judgement.
