It was Isi Metzstein who invented the Macallan Club, for architects and engineers who have seen their work demolished in their own lifetime. Superstatus in this virtual organisation should surely be given to Tom Croft, since not only did he see his work removed, but was also the designer responsible. The project in question was the gallery he designed for Timothy and Lady Helen Taylor in 1996 in bond Street. The client asked for more space, so a rip-out was undertaken and the new, larger, gallery opened last week. Worth a double.
