Nicky Gavron, the former head of the London Planning Advisory Committee, has been confirmed as the deputy mayor of London.

The Labour assembly member for Enfield and Haringey will be the deputy for the first year of Ken Livingstone's four year term as part of his plan to rotate the post.

Gavron will have a key role in the development of the spatial development strategy for the city, which will define the mayor's stance on architecture and planning issues and is expected to take two years to draw up. LPAC has already been subsumed into the Greater London Authority.
