London council to roll out flat pack homes

  • Comment

Hammersmith and Fulham Council in London is working with 3DReid to construct 112 pre-fabricated houses

The west London borough is planning to build 12 of the houses at the Spring Vale Estate in Brook Green.

Sites for a further 100 homes to be built using the model have been identified.

The council is working with 3DReid to deliver the homes which are based on a design by Rational House.

The Rational House model – designed by former 3DReid director Bob Dalziel and Tim Battle – has already been built in the borough at Biscay Road in Hammersmith. The project (pictured) took just 11 days to construct.

Andrew Johnson, the council’s cabinet member for housing, said: ‘This is an innovative way to provide quality homes, fit for modern living at affordable costs.

‘Hammersmith & Fulham is one of the most densely populated boroughs in the country but there is a distinct lack of housing for the middle market. This scheme will lead to the construction of exemplary family homes that can also fit into tight urban spaces and is perfect for a congested city like London.’

He added: ‘This council is committed to creating a borough of housing opportunity, where decent, hard-working local residents can fulfil their housing dreams and purchase a property for a reasonable price.

‘If other local authorities were to follow our lead and build homes like this on their own land it would have a significant impact London’s housing crisis and could help thousands of people into home ownership.’

The homes will be delivered by City House Projects which is a joint venture between 3DReid, Aecom and Rational House.
