L’Obscurier - a message to the AJ

  • Comment

To the Editor, Architects’ Journal. Do not open until June 2015

Dear Sir

A salute to the Future from the Past! I, whom you know as the Patriarch of Theory… I, who correctly prophesied the Modernist Elysium mankind inhabits to-day… I, L’Obscurier have caused this message to be communicated, that your readers may judge for themselves the Inevitability of History. I write this note in 1955 from a ‘Gay Paris’ inundated with popular song and brainless existentialism. Bah. BAH! A new epoch is upon us and it will surely be ‘in full-swing’ as they say in 2015. It is 60 years since the AJ published its first dreadful issue – crammed with hopeless Arts and Crafts rubbish, photo-graphs of Freemasons and cetera. Oh to see the AJ 60 years hence, filled no doubt with prairies of submissive concrete and identicalised versions of my gigantic mass housing prototypes! I deeply envy the Architect of 2015 – revered as a jazzhumanist god, obeyed by client and politician alike, sovereign of the public’s hearts.

My best wishes to you from an as-yetunperfected world. L’Obscurier.

PS I have included my Impression of theTwenty-First Architect’s Attire which I am certain will impress with its accuracy!
