PIECE WORK A new report, which proposes the use of light steel and timber components for structural floor and wall assemblies, is now available to Trada and SCI members. Lightweight steel/timber composite solutions, and information and guidance for new product development, can be obtained for free via www. asktrada. co. uk and www. steelbiz. org sites.

KEEP IT UP The Retention of masonry facades - best practice guide provides guidance for the safe, economic and practical retention of existing facades. In the absence of a code of practice for facade retention, the book provides design recommendations, discusses health and safety issues and documents case studies covering facades with embedded steel or reinforced concrete frames. The guide costs £55 and is available from the CIRIA Bookshop at www. ciria. org. There is a 10 per cent discount for members who order online by 27 November.
