Levitate's 'raised' riverside homes win planning

Levitate Architects has won planning for a £1 million, nine-flat, riverside scheme in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire

Designed as a raised block sitting above the flood level, the 658m² scheme replaces two existing homes and construction is due to start on site in May (2013) and complete in spring 2014.

The architect’s view

Standing on Trentside, the eastern bank of the River Trent,  the proposals replace two dilapidated houses within Flood Zone (3A) and rejuvenate a section of this important river side walk. The designs place the new buildings on an elevated ground plane, enabling long views along the river, while lifting all habitable rooms above predicted flood levels. 

The three buildings are linked by stair cores that form a new corner between Trentside and the adjacent residential street, mediating between the two scales.  

Each building contains three dual aspect apartments that have access to a terrace, balcony or roof terrace facing the river. The apartments terrace forwards to towards the river, providing shade to the neighbour below.  Frosted glass blinkers capture the unique qualities of the sparkling daylight along the riverside. The development will achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
