letters More hope for those stuck in water closets

Referring to Jenifer Pitman's letter regarding the space availability on women's public loos (aj 13.1.00), a simpler answer to the problem - which was also raised in the national press a little time ago by the ladies of the Women's Insitute - is to have the doors opening outwards.

The space thus taken by door swing would become available to the user, making ingress and egress easier with more room for dress adjustment.

An added feature is that it would be much easier to evacuate a person from the wc who for one reason or another may have collided or become incapacitated in the wc, thus blocking the swing of the inward opening door. The arrangement could also be applied to private domestic loos, at no extra cost.
