letters Integrity compromised by quest for adverts

  • Comment

In the last couple of weeks (aj 23.3.00 and 6.4.00) the aj has given space to the debate of the role of women in architecture.

It was therefore with a sense of astonishment that I found a full page advertisement on the back cover of AJ 6.4.00 including a nude woman on a pretext of supporting a weak pun.

As a fully qualified professional I naturally subscribe to my professional journal, only to find that far from understanding the issues of visual representation and its conversion into the success of women in a male- dominated profession, advertising revenue seems to drive the journal to an indiscriminate acceptance of material which has long since been banished to tabloid papers.

Surely in this day and age the aj should pledge to print advertising material acceptable to all their readers?
