Let phone boxes take the weight

letters

Martin Pawley argues that the fixed telephone box is now redundant with the advent of the mobile phone (AJ 27.5.99).

There are people who still manage without mobiles and it is not an advance to demand that we all travel round carting mobile phones, laptops etc.

One day somebody will invent a street-based port where, by inserting a card, we can make use of all the facilities on site rather than carrying them. A telephone box sounds like a good start.
