Langley Waterproofing Systems Ltd’s superior product offering and expertise were chosen to refurbish multiple flat roof areas totalling 900m² at The Bishop Bell C of E Secondary School in Eastbourne after the existing back asphalt roof covering had come to the end of its useful lifespan.
Working closely with Architects Felce & Guy Partnership LLP, Langley designed and specified the optimum warm roof solution, utilising their high performance bituminous Flat Roofing System to provide a complete, durable, long-term water resistant roofing solution with a 20 year independently insurance backed guarantee.
“The Langley system was selected at an early stage for technical reasons,” explained Roger Fine, DipArch RIBA, of Felce & Guy Partnership LLP. “The existing falls were inadequate and cut-to-falls insulation enabled insulation values complying with current regulations to be achieved as well as good drainage. Our clients appreciate the insurance backed guarantee and the regular inspection of work in progress by Langley’s site staff.”
“Not only was this project delivered to an exceptionally high standard, but it also highlights the high degree of planning, skill and craftsmanship required while working on a live education project,” comments Dave Hann, Langley Regional Manager.
Contractor for the project, Richard Soan Roofing Services, worked carefully with the school to follow an agreed phasing schedule, with little disruption to the school’s educational programme. The project was monitored throughout by Langley’s Technical Team and the outstanding results underline the products’ superiority and Langley approved contractors’ detailing expertise.
Langley devises high quality, sustainable roofing solutions in line with clients’ needs. The system at The Bishop Bell School was chosen for its durability and flexibility, allowing not only for a long term waterproofing solution, but also for the complex detailing work required on the roof.
Use of Langley’s high performance elastomeric bituminous membranes added increased tolerance to building movement, climatic extremes and thermal shock. A project specific Parafoam cut-to-falls insulation scheme created the required drainage combining seamlessly with the other system elements to surpass our client’s expectations and provide a long lasting solution for the school.
