Riba president David Rock sounds a little hurt in the latest council papers, sent out to members this week before the main event on 21 January. None of the press picked up his 'trenchant and carefully honed' papers introducing Nick Raynsford at Interbuild or Mark Fisher at an Oxford conference. The last straw had to be the press coverage of the president's inaugural speech. His 'workmanlike address' was too long, he admits, but the press concentrated on this, rather than content. The exception, says Rock, was ar editor Peter Davey, who delivered a 'thoughtful and appreciative article . . . all the more significant by being in such a quality magazine. . .Peter Davey deserves his obe in the New Year's Honours List.'
