Lambeth Council awards Waterloo project

Atkins has won a design competition to revamp the Lower Marsh area in Waterloo, south London

Lambeth Council selected the practice from a shortlist including BDP, Urban Initiatives and Hawkins\Brown.

The £250,000 contract will take the design from RIBA stage B to L and includes plans to reorganise the junction at Lower Marsh, Baylis Road and Spur Road.

In addition the number of market stalls in the area will be reduced from 77 to 46, with each plot being expanded in size. Water and power points will also be installed.

Funding for the scheme is part of the section 106 agreement for the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel scheme.
