Laban Centre lifts off

  • Comment

Herzog and de Meuron has won planning permission for its £22 million contemporary dance centre to be built in Deptford's Creekside in south London. The Laban Centre won £12.5 million of arts lottery money in November last year and will aim to get the rest from the centre's 'key partners' such as the Creekside Renewal SRB, which provided £500,000. The building will contain a 300-seat theatre, 13 dance studios, a library and multimedia information resource centre as well as a dance health facility. It will be an international venue for the teaching of contemporary dance and will expand as a performance centre and is scheduled for completion in 2002.
