Knott Architects has fitted out this loft shell, designed by czwg, close to the new Tate Gallery on Bankside. The drama of the curved glazed wall to the loft is retained and emphasised, with the curve determining a processional route around the apartment. Elements that needed to be enclosed (wcs, storage and a guest bedroom) are confined to 'core boxes' away from the route, apart from the bath which is freestanding in the main bedroom. The remaining areas are experienced as one free-flowing three-dimensional space. Detailing and finishes are kept simple and minimal, allowing colours and the clutter of domestic life to enrich the loft. The structural engineer was Price and Myers, the contractor was Peter Rhys and the contract sum was £60,000.
