There's something nasty in England's historic timber buildings - the death-watch beetle. English Heritage has conducted a three-year research programme which shows that, contrary to previous belief, the beetles can fly and hence reinfect treated timber. It is presenting its findings at a conference on 23 and 24 September, where it will also suggest more effective treatment methods.
