Buckingham Palace's unlikely affair with the world of architecture began recently with an invitation to various practices to revamp the Queen's Picture Gallery. They included the Richard Rogers Partnership, and I now hear that the Queen has been seeking advice from Lady Rogers on royal kitchen strategy. Ruthie was apparently shocked to discover the lengthy distance between stoves and tables (an improvement on arrangements in Queen Victoria's day, one hopes), and has been chatting to hm about how to improve things. Meanwhile a simple solution has been devised for those special occasion dinners: the River Cafe does the catering!
