TV presenter Kevin McCloud’s development company HAB, with housing group GreenSquare, has secured planning for a 42-home scheme in Swindon designed by Glenn Howells Architects
The scheme, known as The Triangle, is the star’s first foray into mass housing and was approved by the local council last night (13 October 2009).
Due to start on site in the new year, the proposals seek ‘to create contemporary interpretation of Swindon’s mid-Victorian railway cottages – flexible, affordable and efficient to build and run’.
The HAB Oakus joint venture expects the first homes will be complete by the end of 2010.
Speaking to the local press after the committee hearing - in which he dubbed the proposals a ‘high happiness’ concept - McCloud said: ‘I am immensely relieved — I feel as if I am about to collapse after that. I am quite excited. I have spent a huge amount of money and three years working on the project.
‘It is a blessed relief — thank you Swindon.’

First look: Glenn Howells Architects, The Triangle, Swindon
TV presenter Kevin McCloud’s development company, with housing group GreenSquare, has submitted plans for a 42-home scheme in Swindon designed by Glenn Howells Architects
Called The Triangle, the project, designed with landscape architects Studio Engleback, seeks to create a contemporary interpretation of Swindon’s mid-Victorian railway cottages – flexible, affordable and efficient to build and run.
Dwellings have been designed to meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and are ‘future-proofed’ with the fixings, connections and space to allow easy retro-fitting of solar thermal and PV panels at a later date.
Hab Oakus is a joint venture between Kevin McCloud’s development company, Hab, and the housing group GreenSquare. The Triangle is being delivered with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and is due to start on site by the end of the year with completion by December 2010.
