London mayor Ken Livingstone has presented his draft paper entitled Biodiversity Strategy for public consultation. 'Everyone needs access to nature, particularly those in built-up parts of the city, ' he said. The strategy aims to protect the capital's open spaces from the threat of development and inadequate management.

Developers will also be encouraged to incorporate green spaces in their proposals. Livingstone wants all of London's open spaces to be surveyed and assessed over a 10-year rolling programme.
