I was interested to read your note on Architecture Week and its proposed relationship with Open House. It would seem to me that the success of Open House is in spite of, rather than because of, architecture-related institutions. The involvement of one now would almost certainly spoil the broth: too many chefs and all that.
I do not see why the two events cannot exist as separate entities serving different agendas and providing for different interests. If in fact, as it has been rumoured, Architecture Week is suffering from teething problems then perhaps it needs the kind of leadership Victoria Thornton can offer. Her ability to bridge between the public and the profession is well documented and her passion for architecture cannot be questioned.
