Just what does 'under £150k' mean . . .

I was amused by Burrell Foley Fischer's efforts to squeeze into 'Under £150k' (aj 21.1.99). Looks like some clever accounting was required - the interior fit-out had to be excluded to bring the cost of the British Museum shop down to a pat £150,000. Besides, is £150,000 really under £150k anyway? If 'under 18' in the licensing laws included 18-year-olds, then 18th birthday celebrations would be teetotal!

With practices so keen to be included, 'Under £150k' seems to be a popular medium for the airing of some interesting small projects.
