Jestico + Whiles has won an international competition to overhaul the British School Muscat in Oman
The AJ100 studio defeated a raft of unnamed rivals to masterplan the prestigious expansion project.
Planned to start on site next year, the scheme will regenerate the school’s 3.6 hectare site which is located in the Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos area of central Muscat.
The practice is currently working on the concept design for the first phase which will create a new sports centre featuring a 25 metre-long swimming pool, 12 sports courts and an artificial football pitch.
A 700-seat auditorium, central dining hall, sixth form centre and new science accommodation will also be delivered.
Principal Kai Vacher said: ‘I am delighted that we are working with such a highly regarded team of architects with such a strong international reputation.’
He continued: ‘Working with the team at Jestico + Whiles to create an inspiring and exciting master plan is a key step in realising our vision for British School Muscat to become one of the leading British international schools in the world.’
Jestico + Whiles associate director Ben Marston said: ‘We are enormously proud to have been selected by the British School Muscat. It is a very exciting project and the site has so much potential. We have enjoyed working with the school to develop plans and maximize the use of it.’
First opened in 1971, the school currently teaches children aged 3 to 18 representing more than 60 different nationalities.
