The highly successful on-site roll forming facility introduced by Hoogovens a year ago has been accredited with the prestigious iso 9002 quality assurance standard. We believe it to be the only on-site roll-forming process to carry the hallmark of excellence.
The highly flexible mobile production of aluminium kal-zipregistered roofing and cladding systems was assessed for iso status while undergoing its most rigorous test so far, producing 400 individual sheets, each 117.5m long, for the new Lidl distribution centre at Weston-super-Mare.
kal-zipregistered sheeting was roll-formed at ground level and then flowed to the roof by means of a purpose-built aluminium 'ski-slope', following several design meetings and a full-scale factory simulation.
The award also extends to the local service provided by Hoogovens' regional offices.
In order to meet the growing demand for the mobile service, the company will shortly be taking delivery of two new and more technically advanced roll formers.
Nick Abraham, who has recently joined Hoogovens after acting as an independent health & safety and quality assurance consultant to the company for many years, will be responsible for managing the new award, which is re-assessed every six months.
He will also be aiming to achieve the iso 1400 accreditation, awarded for companies that sustain high standards of environmental awareness of issues such as recycling and effluent management.
The isoqar quality assurance certificate covers both factory and now on-site production; the fabrication of all metal generally, rather than just aluminium; the supply of specialist roofing and cladding accessories, such as the Fallarrest system; and technical support, not just at the company's Haydock plant but at all its regional offices.
