New Year Honours

Jim Stevenson (left), chief executive of the bca, has been awarded an obe for his services to the construction industry in the 1998 New Year Honours List. Stevenson is also chairman of the Concrete Industry Alliance, and a fellow of the Institute of Management, the Institution of Highways and Transportation, the Concrete Society and the Faculty of Building.

Civils 98

Civils 98 is a major new industry exhibition to be held at the National Exhibition Centre on 19-21 May 1998, developed to provide an umbrella show for the whole civil engineering industry. All sectors will be represented, from the environment to roads and bridges. Civils 98 has been developed by New Civil Engineer in partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Concrete Focus 98

The concrete industry is to hold its first national industry week. Concrete Focus will feature a wide range of events aimed at focusing on concrete innovation, performance and achievement. These include the Concrete Society's Concrete Day; site open days; product launches and industry seminars. All concrete-related organisations and companies are invited to participate.

Construct Award for Innovation

Entries for the 1998 Construct Award for Innovation are now invited. Entries must demonstrate an innovative development that will enhance the concrete-frame industry.
