Hawkins/Brown has designed this Advocacy Centre for Newham Social Services. The single-storey lightweight structure will house a drop-in centre and space for rent. It should start on site in September, with completion inside 12 weeks.

ARUP GOLD: Arup Associates' £8.5 million, two-storey Control Techniques hq building in Newtown, Powys has won a Gold Medal in Architecture from the Royal Society of Architects in Wales.

DOWNLAND SIX: Six winners have been chosen for the Downland Prize for Architects for new buildings, extensions or refurbishments in South or South-east England. Overall winner Rainey Petrie Design beat highly commended designs under £250,000 by Aldington, Craig & Collinge, Corrigan + Soundy + Kilaiditi, Richard Holden Associates and John Senter Architect. Roger Joyce Associates won a special award for use of brick.
