DE LA WARR DELIGHT: John McAslan and Partners has won listed-building consent to create an international art and architecture centre at the Grade I-listed De La Warr pavilion in Bexhill-on-sea. The job is to create a 400-500m2 art gallery in the east wing for touring exhibitions and a new detached north extension for staff and support, and to refurbish the theatre in the west wing and provide new accomodation in the backstage area. It is hoped that an arts lottery grant in October will pay for some of the £12 million cost. It starts on site in February 2000.
