IN BRIEF: Stephen George & Partners

Leicester-based practice Stephen George & Partners has won planning consent for a 15-storey accommodation block (above) for students studying at both the city's universities. The building, containing 658 study-bedrooms, is to be built on the site of former British Gas offices, which have now been demolished. Construction work is scheduled to begin next month, and students are expected to move in around June 2003. The height of the building varies on each elevation: the De Montfort Street frontage rises just seven storeys, but the building is 15 storeys in height over the railway line. A final budget has yet to be agreed with developers the Sowden Group.
