in brief: Quintet bid for Millennium Point

Five bidders have joined the race to build Birmingham's £111.6 million landmark Millennium Point landmark lottery project (aj 16.7.98), to be completed under design-and-build. Architects for the bidders include Percy Thomas Partnership for Sir Robert McAlpine, Seymour Harris Partnership for Shepherd Construction, and Mason Richards Partnership for a joint venture of Gallifords and Christiani & Nielsen. John Laing Construction and Taylor Woodrow would not name their architects. Original designer Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners will be kept on until a bidder is chosen on 31 March 1999.
