In brief: Aalto contest fight to the Finnish

news

Judges of the international student competition to design a new library alongside Alvar Aalto's in Seinajoki, Finland, have decided to extend the first stage of the competition and eliminate the second. The judges have selected nine anonymous entrants to submit developed ideas by 3 February 1999. A winner will be invited to form a partnership with a Finnish practice (originally all first-stage finalists would have done this) to develop a buildable design. The results of the competition will be announced in March and construction should start in 2000.
