Ilkley Rugby Club grandstand: take two

Bradford-based Design Studio North - Architects (DS-N) has won planning permission for this £1.45 million clubhouse and 80-seat grandstand for Ilkley Rugby Club in West Yorkshire.

The scheme, which will redevelop an existing 1925 stand and clubhouse, sits within the green belt next to the River Wharfe.

As a result, the ground floor, which houses six team changing rooms and physiotherapy facilities is 1m above the flood plain.

Work is due to start in June 2010.

The club was unable to secure funds for a previous, more expensive scheme by Snell Associates. The £1.9 million (see below) project bagged planning approval in September 2007 but was dropped last year.

  • Me too, first thing that came to my mind upon seeing this! You would wonder if they have just seen Hadid's design and thought we like that! To my mind its is just a decorative roof form serving no real purpose.
