Ichioka, Meades and Merrick among new RIBA Honorary Fellows

AJ contributor Jay Merrick and Sarah Ichioka, the director of the Architecture Foundation have been named among 12 new RIBA Honorary Fellowships today (27 September)

They are joined by Jonathan Meades, the author of the new book Museum Without Walls, and a number of clients including Grosvenor’s Rod Holmes - the driving force behind the 2009 Striling Prize-shortlisted Liverpool One development masterplanned by BDP.

There is also recognition for renowned Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf who worked with Peter Zumthor on the 2011 Serpentine Pavilion and Peter Dilley - the chair of Arup Group.

RIBA Honorary Fellowships are awarded annually to people who ‘have made a particular contribution to architecture in its broadest sense’. According to te institute, this includes its ‘promotion, administration and outreach; and its role in building moresustainable communities and in the education of future generations’.

  • Sarah Ichioka - director of the Architecture Foundation
  • Prof Harry Mallgrave - director of the International Center for Sustainable New Cities, Illinois Institute of Technology
  • Jonathan Meades - broadcaster and writer
  • Jay Merrick - journalist    
  • Piet Oudolf - landscape and garden designer
  • Jill Ritblat - British Architectural Trust Board
  • Baroness Whitaker - Labour Peer
