Riverside curves Foster's new Albion Riverside development on the south bank of the Thames has been equipped with a complex curved tapered roof by Kalzip. Some 1,400 custom-made smooth Kalzip sheets were used, and to achieve the very high acoustic requirement, Kalzip incorporated two layers of high-density acoustic insulation. The Kalzip system also included clad-aluminium stucco embossed soaker flashings and a polyester post-coated coping system.



Render cleans up on Hampstead home A private house in Hampstead, London, has used a lightweight silicone render system from Alumasc that can incorporate insulation materials fixed directly to the substrate. The M R Swisstherm external wall insulation system was used in 140mm sizes to achieve a U-value of 0.35-0.25. Weather and impactresistant, the system offers long-term durability.

The walls were finished with self-cleaning M R ST Silkolitt 1.5mm white silicone render for ease of maintenance.



Ventilator helps bedroom breathe To ensure adequate ventilation in the roof bedroom of a private house in Hampstead, architects specified a Glidevale system. Some 30 Premier Inline ventilators, FV250 over-fascia ventilators and a Premier under-fascia eaves skirt were supplied to fit unobtrusively into the roof covering and eaves to provide efficient ventilation of the roof space. The eaves skirt replaces the underlay into the gutter, and offers a hinged front face to allow easy access to the fascia board for fitting gutter brackets.



Wooden floors for Newcastle apartments The conversion of The Turnbull in Newcastle into 48 one, two and three bedroom apartments has used a selection of Tarkett woods for the flooring. Tarkett red oak was used in 14mm sizes in all areas except the bedrooms, with oak 22mm chosen for the atrium, lobby and corridors. Maple select 14mm was laid throughout the penthouses. The woods were finished with the Protecto lacquer system, enabling the floors to resist daily wear and surface damage. The boards can easily be laid as a floating floor or directly on top of the substrate.



Sash windows in Worthing refurb Bowed Sheerframe vertically sliding sash windows have been chosen for a housing scheme that replaces a burnt-down section of Georgian homes in Worthing, West Sussex.

L B Plastics and windowmaker BLW teamed up to create a bowed Sheerframe VS window with deep bottom rail and externally applied astragals to replicate the original style.

Offering weather-resistance against the exposed seafront location, the Sheerframe windows were finished with either canopies or slate grey casements.



Mortar match The buildings that make up Belvedere Creek housing development in Faversham, Kent, have used dry-mix mortar from CPI Euromix in a range of natural colours. The silo mixes, from CPI's standard range of mortars, will complement the Arundel yellow and Banbury red bricks chosen to maintain uniformity with the surrounding area.
