House in St John's Wood, London by Hogarth Architects


[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] Hogarth Architects has finally won permission for this £1 million house in St John’s Wood, north London

The approval comes after a two and half year-battle in which the practice lodged three planning applications and fought through an appeal. The local planning committee had rejected previous proposals citing, primarily, issues with the street-front façade.   

The two bedroom, 250m² home replaces an existing, single storey artists’ studio in the St.John’s Wood conservation area and features a green roof and ‘sunken’ garden.  

Project architect Hamish Herford said: ‘The size of the proposal could not exceed the dimensions of the original building, however an additional floor was made possible below ground level.  

‘The design is a contemporary solution that relates to its neighbours while clearly defining itself as a separate building….. the front façade  has a modulated surface of contrasting bronze  nd Portland stone surfaces to create a sculptural addition to the streetscape.’
