The number of houses being built in London has fallen to an all-time low, according to figures released by the National House-Building Council (NHBC)

The NHBC’s figures reveal that just 171 private homes were started in the capital in February – a decline of 15 per cent on the previous record low of 200 in January. At the same time last year, 938 private homes started on site.

On a national scale, the NHBC received only 7,931 applications to start new homes in the private sector in the three months to the end of February. This is 72 per cent lower than the 28,533 registrations in the same period last year.
