From 1 January 2001, housebuilders must label all new houses with their energy efficiency rating, the government announced last week. The rating will be a number between 1-100 and will be calculated on the basis of space and water heating costs. It will also have to be submitted to building control.'This will give prospective buyers and first occupiers an idea of how energy efficient the home is, and help promote energy efficiency as a factor in people's decisions on which home to choose, ' said construction minister Nick Raynsford.
