Six students working with PRP Architects have won a RIBA competition to design holistic hotels - a new sustainable building type for the sector. The group beat off competition from Cater Day Architects and Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects for a site near Cardiff.

The competition explored sustainable development issues in terms of fabric and services design, energy use and CO 2emissions and costs. Judges included John McAslan and prizes on offer totalled £10,000. It was backed by the government's Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme. The institute has also revealed the result of the sustainable schools competition. See page 18.
