Derry's £13.5 million millennium complex is under construction on a vacant inner city site. The building houses a theatre with a flexible 1000-seat auditorium, and also includes 1500m 2of retail accommodation. Income from the retail will be used to offset a percentage of the running cost of the complex. The Derry Theatre Trust is the client, and the project is part funded by the Millennium Commission, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the DETR, and Derry City Council. The project is due for completion in May 2001. Taylor and Boyd is the structural engineer, Patrick McCaul Consulting Engineers is the M&E engineer, James Sammon & Co is the quantity surveyor, Adrian James is the acoustic consultant, Fermac Properties is the project manager and the theatre consultant is MHA.
