Studio Egret West and HLM architects reveal vision for ‘The Movement’
The major £110m mixed-use regeneration proposal has been given the green light following the acquisition of the 2.2-acre vacant Greenwich Industrial Estate in the heart of Greenwich town centre from the Royal Borough of Greenwich for £16m.
Aiming to capture the “movement” of the future community, the site will feature a 181-unit residential element, 358-bed student village and redevelopment of the existing Greenwich West Community Centre, all designed by Studio Egret West.
Work on Egrets’ residential unit and community centre extension will begin on site immediately, followed by the student village later this summer.
HLM’s masterplan for the site gained planning permission in April 2011 and will be delivered by Willmott Dixon, Cathedral Group PLC and Development Securities PLC.
Other planned works include six million pounds of enabling and infrastructure works, a pop-up temporary bicycle café, public art project by official London 2012 poet, Lemn Sissay, an on-site energy centre providing renewable energy and 418 spaces available for bicycle storage.

The scheme has been named ‘The Movement’ to reflect the vision of a sustainable community on the site, which has been vacant since 2007.
