Hilton Tower by Ian Simpson Architects

  • Comment
301 Deansgate, Manchester

The landmark 50 storey tower incorporates a 279 bedroom 4* Hilton Hotel up to level 23 and residential apartments on the remaining floors. The tower steps out above level 23, signifying the separation between hotel and residential accommodation, and the glazed skin on the south façade extends 25m above the top floor, creating a transparent 'blade' that forms an elegant terminus against the sky. The lower levels of the building are well integrated into the urban context and have been equally carefully considered.

The architect describes this important high-rise building as 'a little bit of New York' and it is certainly has the excitement and bravura of the Manhattan tradition.
