There's no way of getting away from architecture's social responsibilities. All right there is. You exclusively design office towers and supermarkets.
But everybody says, hand on heart, they are taking it seriously. Some actually are. Others aren't but know that if they say they are it's quite difficult to disprove. And quite a lot would like to but are deeply confused about how to do it. Sustainability has the same baggage. Naturally, it being a preachy sort of thing, social commitment is a recognisable blog theme. The biggie, I guess, is Blog Like You Give a Damn at www.bloglikeyougiveadamn.blogspot.com
. This is the official blog of Architecture for Humanity based in Minnesota. It has that nice standard Blogspot layout of a wide column of images and text with references in a narrow column on the right. Not a model for architectural websites of course but you know exactly what's going on and there's even a search engine in the strip at the top. Call me frivolous but I like it because it's first of all about nice ideas in architecture and has some intriguing images, rather than serving as a pulpit for proselytizers of healthy eating and ventilation.
