Howard Goodman, chief architect, 1971-78, and director of health building, 1986-88, at the Department of Health, has died aged 71. He joined a practice at 16, gave new direction to hospital design with low-rise, compact buildings, and had personal 'bollockings' from three permanent secretaries. An appreciation next week.
