Hawkins\Brown scoops planning for £7.5 million Oxford health centre

Hawkins\Brown has won planning permission for its Jericho Health Centre project, located on the former Radcliffe Infirmary site at the University of Oxford

Scheduled for completion in May 2012, the three storey, 4,330m² building is part of a Niall Mclaughlin Architects master plan, and will also house Oxford University Press.

The ground floor will accommodate three GP surgeries, visiting consultant services and nursing services. Meanwhile, the two upper floors will be occupied by Oxford University Press and Oxford University department of primary care health sciences.

Notable design features include a brick facade, and a juxtaposition of recessed and protruding anodised aluminium windows. Double height curtain walling marks the entrance to the building from the new access route onto the ‘Radcliffe Observatory Quarter’ site.

Despite former complaints from local residents concerning the height of the building, the centre has been approved, and will conclude a row of Victorian Terraced housing near to the Grade I-listed Radcliffe Observatory.
