Building developer Gregory Projects is set to start work on a £50 million regeneration scheme in Halifax, including a cinema and retail complex by the Harris Partnership

The company, part of Leeds-based Gregory Property Group, revealed it has reached a funding deal with regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.

Under the plans, a 25,000m² development opposite the Town Hall will take appear in two phases.

The plans include the construction of a nine-screen cinema, 100-bedroom hotel, ten-pin bowling alley, shops, restaurants, office space and a multi-storey car park.

The project will involve 200 construction workers, and when complete, create 220 new jobs.

Lettings have already been agreed for around 70 per cent of the leisure facilities, and it is thought the regeneration will add around £8 million to the regional economy.

David Brimblecombe, managing director of the Gregory Group, said: ‘Full credit needs to go to Calderdale Council and Yorkshire Forward for their continued support of the scheme.

‘This is a major boost for Halifax, with leading national operators demonstrating their confidence in the town.’
